When should I purchase transit insurance?

Purchase coverage as soon as your mover and move dates are confirmed. Coverage normally must be issued before packing or loading begins.

Do I need a valued inventory?

High-value fine art, antiques and collections may require specific identification and declared values. International moves may require a complete valued inventory.

What is coinsurance?

The policy requires the shipment to be insured for its full replacement value. If the declared value is lower than the actual value, claim reimbursement may be reduced proportionately.

What is considered high value?

An individual item valued over $5,000 is generally considered high value and should be specifically identified and declared.

Can I insure only selected items?

Full replacement coverage applies to the total household goods shipment and ordinarily cannot be limited to only a few selected items.

Are owner-packed boxes covered?

Contents packed by the owner may have limited coverage unless external damage to the container is documented on the carrier’s delivery records.

How long do I have to file?

Residential claims should generally be submitted within 90 days of delivery.
